BIO

Born in 1974 in Belgrade in Serbia. Lives and works in Basel and Paris.

Whether it be photographs, prints, collages, video installations, sculptures or in-situ interventions, nothing is forbidden Bojan Šarčević. His work focuses on architecture, volumes, structures, frameworks and limits. Construction, deconstruction and reconstruction are the leitmotif of this oeuvre in which fragments of architecture in space are drawn in 3D using lines and other geometric shapes. In a neo-constructivist spirit, he deconstructs pieces of Art Deco buildings and moves volumes to make abstract sculptures. Copper rubs shoulders with marble monoliths while his poetic videos are indivisible from the interiors in which he presents them… and in passing, he subtly leaves clues to his Bosnian background and his experiences in the heart of Sarajevo when at war. Trained at Beaux-Arts de Paris and at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, he has been teaching since 2008 as part of the post-diploma at De Ateliers in Amsterdam. His work has been exhibited all over the world, from Manifesta in Luxembourg (1998) to the Setagaya Art Museum in Tokyo (1999), the Tate Modern in London, the Berlin Biennale and the Venice Biennale in 2003. Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at the Kunstmuseum in Liechtenstein, the IAC in Villeurbanne (2012), the Kunstverein in Hamburg (2008), Crédac in Ivry (2007) and MAMbo in Bologna (2007).
